Nice beginner's kit for merging electronics, software, and sewing craftwork

This review is for the OSOYOO Lilypad Sewable Starter Kit Learning E-Textile Wearable w/Lilypad USB Board for Arduino (1)
This kit is not for younger children (product description states age 15 and up) because it involves programing and understanding basic electronics.
The kit contains conductive thread which is sewn into the flannel fabric pieces to connect the various electronic circuit boards together to create electronic circuits on fabric.
The Lilypad is programmed using the Arduino Sketch IDE software on your PC and connecting the Lilypad to the computer using the included USB cable. There are links shown in the manual to download sample programs to get you started.
This is a nice kit for merging electronics, software, and sewing craftwork.

Nice kit for older kids

I got this fully expecting it to be for older kids even though ours are younger. This is definitely something youd need to help your kids with if they are young as it requires a little bit of programming and computers. We've attempted to do a few of the crafts with the kids so far. They mostly watch and ask questions, but they enjoy the completed items. You will need a computer to be able to use it, but the instructions do make it easy to use. Overall i cant complain much as I knew what I was getting into.

A fun project for parent and child collaboration

This electronics sewing kit is a very interesting and complete package for anyone looking to get into wearable tech. It comes with almost everything you need to get started, though you should be prepared to supply your own laptop, batteries, and a good pair of scissors. The kit includes five distinct projects, each paired with detailed instructions and helpful templates to guide you through the process. All the necessary electronics are provided, and you even get some extra items like alligator clips that end up being left over.

The main thing to keep in mind is that the intended audience feels a bit split between two age groups. The finished crafts look like they are designed for younger children, yet the actual electronics work and the Arduino coding require a level of maturity that most younger kids do not have yet. It works best as a project to do together as a parent and child team. Another small issue is that some designs tuck the batteries deep inside the finished item, which makes replacing them quite difficult. These are great as a learning tool to understand the basics, but the final results are better viewed as educational experiments rather than permanent keepsakes.

Interesting electronics kit to make sewable electronic crafts

This LilyPad OSOYOO Sewable starter Kit is fun and easy to get started with. It combines basic instruction on sewing and textiles with electronics and fun results like the eletronic stuffy with lighted eyes. The parts are easy to work with - it has large tabs and includes conductive thread for seqing circuts into fabric. The kit includes everything to make a few small projects, and the instruction book is readable and has several photos - though I am a visual learner and wish they had even more photos. Overall this is an interesting kit for kids to learn about wearable electronics - and it even includes the needle too!
For the price, this is about $28 and is essentially a craft / DIY kit for and older child or young adult willing to put in the time to read, cut, sew and learn to make a fun and creative item at the end. I think this is a good value for your money, given that it comes with everything needed and has several build options and ideas included.

A proper starting point for sewable electronics

I've already played with individual LilyPad LEDs, but this is a much better way to actually explore what e-textiles can do instead of just sewing a light onto something and thinking you've mastered the craft.

The useful part is that this kit gives you enough variety to experiment: a programmable LilyPad USB board, regular and RGB LEDs, a light sensor, button, switch, battery holders, conductive thread, clips, and even felt to sacrifice while figuring out what you're doing.

For me, the obvious use is costumes and props. Being able to hide illuminated controls, sensors, or little interactive elements directly inside fabric opens up a completely different set of possibilities than mounting another ESP32 inside a plastic box. I also like that there are actual tutorials behind the kit. You can work through the basics first, then promptly ignore the instructions and build something unnecessarily complicated. Which is usually how these things go.

Overall, a very good gateway for sewing electronics into things that probably didn't need electronics.
