3.5-inch IPS DSI touchscreen for embedded projects. Add touch controls and status information to projects where enclosure space matters. The OSOYOO 3.5-inch display combines a 480×800 IPS panel with a MIPI DSI interface and capacitive touch input. It plugs straight into the Raspberry Pi's MIPI DSI ribbon connector with a single cable — no HDMI and no GPIO header required.

Please note: this 3.5" screen requires a driver. It is not a driverless plug-and-play display. After installing the driver you get a complete desktop touch experience, including a brightness slider, display rotation, and touch that rotates together with the display. Select the driver guide for your OS from the links below.

Why choose this screen

  • Compact 3.5" size: ideal for compact control panels, robotics interfaces, portable prototypes, embedded HMI panels, Pi-based dashboards and smart-home controllers.
  • Uses the DSI/MIPI port only: no HDMI cable and no USB data cable. Video and touch both run through the single DSI ribbon cable, keeping HDMI available for other display needs.
  • 480×800 IPS panel: wide viewing angle, 300 cd/m² brightness, glass panel surface, 16.7M colours (24-bit RGB).
  • Capacitive touch: smooth and responsive. Under the official Raspberry Pi OS it works as a single-touch screen; multi-touch depends on the OS and application.
  • Powered through the DSI connector: no separate power adapter needed for a standard setup. A backup 5V/GND header and power cable are included for cases where DSI power is insufficient.
  • Not just Raspberry Pi: also works with ESP32-P4 development boards (see the compatibility note below).
  • Real engineering support: contact OSOYOO for board selection, setup questions and volume pricing.

Specifications

  • Display size: 3.5 inches
  • Panel: IPS LCD, wide viewing angle
  • Native resolution: 480×800 pixels
  • Active area: ~45.36 × 75.60 mm
  • Brightness: ~300 cd/m² (typical)
  • Colours: 16.7M (24-bit RGB)
  • Surface: glass panel
  • Display interface: MIPI DSI
  • Touch: capacitive (single-touch under the official Raspberry Pi OS; multi-touch depends on OS and application)
  • Backlight control: Raspberry Pi software brightness (slider / command line)
  • Power input: primary: Raspberry Pi DSI connector; backup: onboard 5V / GND header
  • Operating temperature: −20 to 70 °C

Compatibility

  • Raspberry Pi boards with a DSI connector: Raspberry Pi 5, 4B, 3B+, 3B, 2B
  • Compute Modules: CM4 / CM5 on carrier boards (depends on the carrier and requires manual config.txt setup)
  • ESP32-P4: some ESP32-P4 IO boards — please confirm the IO board has the same DSI port as the Raspberry Pi board
  • Operating systems: Raspberry Pi OS (Bookworm / Trixie, 64-bit Desktop); Ubuntu
  • Cables: Pi 4B / 3B+ / 3B / 2B have a single 15-pin DISPLAY port; Pi 5 has two 22-pin DISP0 / DISP1 ports and needs a 22-pin to 15-pin cable (DISP1 by default; add `,dsi0` when using DISP0)

What's in the box

  • 1 × OSOYOO 3.5-inch DSI touchscreen (panel and PCB assembled)
  • 1 × DSI FPC ribbon cable, 15-pin (for Pi 5 / CM5 use a 22-pin to 15-pin cable)
  • 1 × 5V power cable (to supplement power when DSI power is insufficient)
  • 1 × standoff / screw mounting kit
  • 1 × quick-start card

Set up

  1. Connect the DSI ribbon cable to your Raspberry Pi's DISPLAY / DSI port.
  2. In normal use the display is powered through the DSI cable — no extra wiring or power adapter is needed. Use an adequate genuine power supply for the Raspberry Pi so display and touch operate reliably.
  3. Install the driver for your OS by following the guide linked below.

Please note

  • Always power off before connecting or disconnecting the ribbon cable or jumpers.
  • If DSI power is insufficient (for example an under-rated adapter, a long power cable, or heavy USB peripheral load on the Pi), use the included cable to supplement power: connect the header's 5V to the Raspberry Pi 5V pin and GND to the Raspberry Pi GND pin. Insufficient power may cause flicker, unresponsive touch, or a blank screen. The external supply must be 5V — do not reverse the polarity or exceed the voltage, or the board may be damaged.
  • The panel surface and ribbon are fragile — avoid bending, pressing, or dropping. Use in a dry, clean environment; avoid liquid ingress and electrostatic discharge.
  • Do not disassemble the module unless you are a professional.
  • If your project needs reliable multi-touch, please verify on your target OS and application first — under the official Raspberry Pi OS this display works as a single-touch screen.

Clever hardware and great multi-platform support, but setup is tricky

The hardware concept of this 3.5-inch screen is brilliant—saving HDMI and GPIO ports via a DSI connection while supporting both Raspberry Pi and ESP32-P4 for low-cost HMI designs. However, I’m giving it 3 stars because the initial configuration can be quite a challenge. Because it requires manual driver installation, it might frustrate users who lack basic Linux knowledge. Be ready to follow the documentation line-by-line or contact OSOYOO support to get it working properly.

Highly versatile micro-display, excellent for cost-sensitive HMI builds

We use these tiny screens for our prototype HMI devices. The multi-platform support (Raspberry Pi, Ubuntu, and ESP32-P4) gives us great flexibility and drastically reduces manufacturing costs. The DSI layout keeps wiring clean without occupying the HDMI port. Keep in mind that it requires manual driver installation and basic Linux familiarity. However, unlike generic suppliers, OSOYOO’s engineering team is always professional and responsive.

Great little screen for HMI projects, driver setup needs a bit of patience

This 3.5-inch screen is fantastic for DIY and commercial IoT setups supporting Raspberry Pi, Ubuntu, and ESP32-P4. The display is sharp, and the DSI interface saves valuable GPIO pins. My only critique is that the driver installation can be slightly intimidating for absolute beginners who aren't comfortable with Linux. Make sure to read the tutorial carefully or reach out to OSOYOO’s tech support. Once running, it’s a powerhouse!

Crisp, reliable micro-display with top-tier vendor backing

I’ve tested several mini screens, and this 3.5-inch DSI version stands out as the best for modern micro-controllers like the ESP32-P4 and Raspberry Pi. It delivers high-definition visuals while keeping the host's HDMI and GPIO pins free. Driver configuration has a small learning curve, but OSOYOO provides solid tutorials and responsive engineering backup. If you need a reliable micro-HMI screen, look no further.

Exceptional for miniature industrial control dashboards

We deployed a batch of these 3.5-inch displays for our compact industrial monitoring devices. Being able to run them on Raspberry Pi and ESP32-P4 has lowered our production expenses drastically. The image quality is sharp, and the DSI setup keeps the internal layout very neat. Be prepared to install the driver manually with some Linux background, but OSOYOO’s team is always there if you need guidance. A solid 5-star experience!
