I bought two of these to work on with my (teenage) grandson. I have mostly built one of them, ahead of giving the other to my grandson, just to make sure there were no "gotchas" that would disappoint him. There are none. It went together pretty easily and worked first time. I haven't tested it thoroughly yet and still have to add the tracking and navigation sensors, but the primary goal was to investigate the use of Mecanum wheels, and they appear to be doing their job just fine. The downloadable "Driving" app is somewhat limited but it works and is a good test for the robot. Developing a more comprehensive and flexible control program is something we'll work on together. This a great value for an introduction to Mecanum wheels, and I can't say enough about the support provided. I e-mailed support with a couple of questions about batteries and iPad Bluetooth operation and got replies back in minutes. I've never had product support this fast. Thanks, Osoyoo!
The parts seem sturdy enough. With batteries, the unit has a solid weight feel to it. Initially, during testing after the build, one wheel would not turn. I emailed tech support on Saturday evening. I got a response *late that same night*. With the info that the support person gave me, I was able to remediate the issue and I had a working car within an hour. Osoyoo tech support is incredible! Because of their support, I'm now looking at their other products, like the Osoyoo Smart Home IoT Learning Kit.
The kit itself is well organized and the instructions are pretty good. My team built this as a fun activity together, and osoyoo offer fantastic tech support.
Recommended for adults or teens who want a small challenge.
This turned out to be a great kit for learning about robotic basics. For assembly they have both a printed manual and a full set of videos showing the procedure. They take you step by step starting with assembly and initial testing of the controller/motors then adding additional features in subsequent lessons. All the lessons have pre-written Arduino .ino files that you simply download use to flash the Mega controller. From there you can modify and play around with your own customization.
I wouldn't say the components are high-end but they're definitely a step up from what you get in the cheaper, all plastic kits. This one has a sturdy metal base, metal motor housings/brackets/couplers. I'd say it's a good value given the goal is mainly learning at a reasonable cost, not to create an expensive, high precision machine...
I had one motor that was very tight and not turning like the other three. I contacted Osoyoo and they immediately sent me a new motor with no hassle. Fantastic support!
Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase. It's a great kit for anyone wanting to start learning about robot building and coding.
